An Oystercatcher That’s Been Caught

This Oystercatcher has a problem. He’s got a Mussel attached to one of his toes. Years ago, I would see Oystercatchers dining on Mussels on the north shore. This seems like some sort of delayed Karma. I was only able to observe him for about a half hour, and in that time, he made two short, low flights. Obviously, he cannot migrate with this sort of baggage. I don’t know how this ends. My hope is that the Mussel will eventually loosen its grip on this unlucky fellow.  JK

  1. Boy, what a bummer! He must feel like I felt when I hurt my foot and knee, and had to wear one of those robo-cop boots. In the second shot, he looks like he’s trying to act nonchalant, like Gene Wilder in “Young Frankenstein” when the constable stops him. I feel for the guy. I hope he can whack that new appendage off and go on his merry way.
