Jonah’s View Of The Adirondacks

Monday, October 28, 2013,

Sometimes the light at the end of the tunnel can be quite colorful. This is the view from Stewart Brook as it passes beneath a road somewhere between Second Lake and Lake Luzerne.

These were taken about two weeks ago on the return leg of a trek that started out at Lake Luzerne. I was in the Adirondacks for a few days of vacation and kayaking. Sometimes my vacations are more work than my job. I have to admit that the scenery was much better. The weather rocked – sunny skies and mild temperatures – and Autumn’s colors were very near their peak. Every vacation should be like this. JK.

  1. I does certainly look like the proverbial belly of the whale with all those ribs! Did you emerge with any great wisdom as a result? That descent is very mythological and usually yields something great for the heroic adventurer. 😉

  2. Oh yes, I did emerge with some hard-earned wisdom, but truth be told, it was wisdom I had already garnered. Upstream is harder than downstream. More importantly and more to the point in this case, uphill is harder than downhill. The first half of this trek, which was literally uphill, was a good deal more work than the journey back. The Adirondacks offer spectacular views as well as several changes in elevation. There were a couple of instances on this journey where I really needed to ‘bull’ my kayak over some difficult areas and in one instance I needed carry my yak over a section of low water and rocky waters. However, the return trip was cake in comparison and those sections that had given me trouble were nothing but fun.
As for treasure or reward I can only offer up a few pics. But that is my kind of treasure. 🙂
