Loons were still there as recently as two weeks ago. There may be a couple of stragglers that haven’t flown north yet.
By the way, Stony Brook Harbor is a great place to find Common Loons during the winter months. Unfortunately, they look rather drab till they they start molting into their breeding colors in mid to late March. If you go, check out the channel between the boat ramp area and Youngs Island, which is right across the channel. Also, be sure to look east towards West Meadow Beach and Creek. (Near the Gamecock Cottage). JK.
I saw the one that was in the Central Park reservoir with Sue K. many years ago. They are big birds! And so beautiful in their breeding colors! This is a super shot! Thank you for posting it. 🙂
