A Bluebird in Sag Harbor

Wednesday, November 25, 2020,

I was walking along one of the trails at Morton Refuge in Sag Harbor when I caught sight of this guy flitting among the trees ahead of me. This is a male Eastern Bluebird. Despite the fact that this is our state bird, I only rarely manage to see them. I was pretty happy about finding this one. JK.

  1. It’s so exciting to see one, and these photos are beautiful.
The first one I ever saw was in TN, where there were many, followed by one at Caumsett a couple of years ago. I wonder if there are areas of NY State that they are more prevalent?
Such a beautiful moment to capture!

  2. Thank you Jane. A week and a half before finding this guy, I saw a female on the grounds of Sweetbriar Nature Center. As for there being more bluebirds elsewhere in the state, I sure hope so. And I certainly wouldn’t mind knowing where. 🙂 JK.

  3. What a boon! A bluebird! Aside from once at Avalon, I’ve only seen them a million years ago at Caumsett. This is such a great shot — he so soft and cuddly looking! And he looks very discerning and wise. Great picture!

  4. “Soft and cuddly” yet “discerning and wise”? I think you just described Yoda. I had no idea you were a Star Wars fan. 🙂 And, thank you Michele. JK.
