A Turkey in a Tree

Friday, February 14, 2020,

This is not something you get to see very often. This Wild Turkey hen is about six feet above the ground. This particular bird did not fly to her present position so much as leap. Yeah, Turkeys are good jumpers. Most people don’t realize it, but these ungainly looking birds are also capable of flight. I’ve seen Turkeys that were thirty feet up a tree, which is where they like to roost at night. It keeps them safe from predators. This Turkey, however, is not seeking safety. She’s after those berries.  JK

  1. What a cool shot! How much does this bird weigh, do you think? And what is she eating?

  2. An adult Wild Turkey hen weighs about nine or ten pounds. The males are larger and heavier. I’m afraid I don’t know what sort of berries she’s eating. JK.

  3. Wild Turkeys are excellent jumpers. They have very strong legs. They are also capable of flight, but they use their wings for that. 🙂 JK.
