First Day

Tuesday, June 9, 2020,

These are two only hours old Oystercatcher chicks. The one on the left appears to be contemplating a return to its shell. I can’t claim to blame it. I’ve been reading the news too. As an aside, these are the hatchlings from the eggs and nest I posted a few days ago. With any luck, I may be able to document their future progress. So far, so good.  JK

  1. Oh my GOODNESS! What adorable balls of fluff! Were you waiting for them to hatch? That must have been amazing! They don’t look anything like their adult counterparts. Oh, keep going! Keep going! The Oystercatcher Saga — Yes!

  2. Hi Michele,
I had been monitoring the nest but I was not there at the actual hatching. I will continue to watch this family by returning every few days. Besides viewing the pre-hatched eggs, I’ve gotten photos of them on Day One, Day Three (huge difference in mobility), and Day Seven. Hopefully, we will have many more pics of this “Oystercatcher Saga” as you so aptly call it. JK.
