Juvenile Yellow-bellied Sapsucker

Wednesday, November 11, 2020,

This is a juvenile male Yellow-bellied Sapsucker at Frank Melville Park in Setauket. Adult Sapsuckers have red foreheads. You can tell that this is a male by the very sparse splotches of red beneath its chin. The females don’t wear the red beards. JK.

  1. Hi Susan. Thanks for coming by. While it may appear that he was sitting still, that was not the case. This guy was all over the place. These are fairly active birds. JK.
