Hello, dear reader. As some of you may know I’m a member of the Four Harbors Audubon Society. I’m their photographer. Go figure. Four Harbors has monthly walks at Avalon Preserve in Stony Brook and at Frank Melville Memorial Park in Setauket. The walks take place every second Saturday of each month. At this time of year the Avalon walk starts at 8 AM and Frank Melville walk starts at 11 AM. Both walks offer different terrain and therefore different species and photo ops. These pics were both taken at Avalon but Frank Melville rocks just as much as Avalon.

This is what birders look like, just in case this has been a burning question in anyone’s mind. And if it has, you may need more help than I can offer. This is a pic of some of the walkers from the May 9th walk at Avalon. I don’t know if they’re looking at a bird, a plane, or maybe it’s Underdog. I’m always hoping for Underdog but that’s just me. Pretty Polly must be someplace else.

This is not Pretty Polly but isn’t this bird just plain beautiful? This is called a Common Yellowthroat. How could such a bird be called ‘common’? I took this pic literally three minutes before I got the shot of the Audubon walkers in the first pic. They were looking up while I was looking elsewhere. You never know where the shot is going to be. JK
