Whiskers

Look at those eyes. This is a White-tailed Deer that I happened across while I was meandering amongst the farm fields at Avalon. Click on the pics to see a larger and clearer version, especially this top pic. This is a beautiful animal and I think you might want to see her as I saw her. I’m not bragging on me; Mother Nature made this design. I was just lucky enough to witness Her work. She sure does some wonderful stuff, no?

Walking With Birders

Saturday, June 13, 2015,

Hello, dear reader. As some of you may know I’m a member of the Four Harbors Audubon Society. I’m their photographer. Go figure. Four Harbors has monthly walks at Avalon Preserve in Stony Brook and at Frank Melville Memorial Park in Setauket. The walks take place every second Saturday of each month. At this time of year the Avalon walk starts at 8 AM and Frank Melville walk starts at 11 AM. Both walks offer different terrain and therefore different species and photo ops. These pics were both taken at Avalon but Frank Melville rocks just as much as Avalon.

20150509091518-3x5wThis is what birders look like, just in case this has been a burning question in anyone’s mind. And if it has, you may need more help than I can offer. This is a pic of some of the walkers from the May 9th walk at Avalon. I don’t know if they’re looking at a bird, a plane, or maybe it’s Underdog. I’m always hoping for Underdog but that’s just me. Pretty Polly must be someplace else.

20150509091212 (3)-5x7waThis is not Pretty Polly but isn’t this bird just plain beautiful? This is called a Common Yellowthroat. How could such a bird be called ‘common’? I took this pic literally three minutes before I got the shot of the Audubon walkers in the first pic. They were looking up while I was looking elsewhere. You never know where the shot is going to be. JK
