This is no spring chicken. Well yes, of course, it’s not a chicken at all. It’s a rabbit. An Eastern Cottontail adult, to be precise. This guy has seen a couple of summers, at least. He may have been delivering eggs when I was a kid. Keep going and going Mr. Energizer. JK

Time for an isn’t-that-just-too-cute post. This little guy is an Eastern Cottontail. I found him on Tuesday morning along one of the paths at the David Weld Sanctuary. He had almost no fear of me. In fact he let me pass him on the path without disappearing into the brush.
I’ve wanted to post another rabbit picture for some time now but nearly all of the rabbits I’ve seen this year have been infested with tics. Lots of tics. This guy and another I saw the same day seemed to be tic-free, but don’t let that fool you. The tics are still out there. I found one on crawling up my leg yesterday as I was getting ready to launch my kayak. There. That should balance out the cuteness of this post. I feel better now. JK

I was at David Weld Sanctuary on Monday morning when I came upon this rabbit reading the dedication marker. I thought it would make for an interesting shot. As I was focusing in on my subjects I realized that someone had defaced the marker. I’m not sure what material was used to change the lettering (it might be pencil) but it does not appear to have been etched into the stone so, hopefully, it can be scrubbed out. JK

I brought a tick home with me last week and very nearly passed it on to one of my cats. This poor Eastern Cottontail has a rather bloated one hanging off his left ear. Ouch. JK.
