Carolina Wren At Frank Melville Park

Sunday, March 12, 2017,

This is a pair of shots of a Carolina Wren. I came across it at Frank Melville Memorial Park in Setauket while I was walking through the park with a friend. Isn’t this a cute little bird? It was a good day for birds, both big and small. On the same visit we also saw two Wild Turkeys. How cool is that? Frank Melville is a great park. If you’re ever in the neighborhood, you should really check it out. JK

This handsome beast is one of several great dogs that I met in Lake George, NY during the third weekend of the city’s Winter Carnival celebration. While he may not look it, he was quite friendly. Actually, when I look at this pic, I think he looks pensive. Deep thoughts, a philosopher perhaps. Or maybe he’s just wondering what my forearm tastes like. Who can tell? JK

These two shots were taken at the ‘Jellies Invasion’ exhibit inside the National Aquarium in Baltimore. The National Aquarium has many excellent exhibits but the jellyfish room may have been my favorite. There were six large tanks containing different kinds of jellyfish. I really enjoy watching the undulating movements of the ‘jellies’. I find it quite mesmerizing. JK

This is a pair of Spotfin Porcupinefish. They reside at the National Aquarium in Baltimore, Maryland. I was there about four days ago. Whenever I visit a new city I try to check out its zoos or aquariums. The National Aquarium is the best aquarium I’ve ever visited. Eye candy abounds and the displays are top-notch. If you ever have the chance, I heartily suggest that you take the time to visit this aquarium. JK

White-Breasted Nuthatch

These pics were taken in November at Sweetbriar. I am almost always behind in posting my pics. In fact, I still have some summer pics that are still waiting to be posted.

This handsome devil is a White-breasted Nuthatch. Besides their looks and their rather nasal call, Nuthatches have another distinguishing feature. They have the curious habit of working their way down a tree in their search for insects. Most other birds work their way up trees. Nuthatches are individualists. Plus sometimes they make for some cool pics. JK
