This is a shot that I took over a year ago at Sunken Meadow Park. This Snowy Egret had raised the plumes on the back of his head giving him the appearance of a punk rocker. Does anyone remember Billy Idol? It wasn’t that long ago, was it? I think I’m showing my age. JK

This Mute Swan is just lifting off from the water. Actually, he is being chased off by another swan, the father of four nearly grown cygnets. I got to witness this twice because this bird landed near the family of his pursuer. He was then chased away again. Some birds get no respect. JK

In an earlier post I mentioned that Mergansers have serrated bills. All the better to catch those little fishes with, my dear. In this close-up you can see that bill fairly well. No teeth, no problem. These choppers look like they do the job just fine. JK
