Painted Turtle On A Pond In Maine

Sunday, September 30, 2012,

Here are two shots of an Eastern Painted Turtle I found on a small pond in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. These turtles are beautiful wherever you find them. Those bright red and yellow stripes are just plain magnificent. Even the shell is “painted” wonderfully. These guys are native to Long Island as well as Maine, but I can never get enough of them. Such beautiful animals. Every time I see one, it’s a treat. JK

Chipmunk Enjoying Rosehips

Sunday, September 2, 2012,

Here’s a short series of shots of a chipmunk chowing down on some rose hips. This little guy had his own little hole right in here amongst these wild roses. It must seem like manna from heaven when these fruits start to drop. Of course, I’m ignoring the basic fact that chipmunks are very capable climbers and that, quite possibly, this guy maybe even clipped these rose hips so they fell to the ground next to his burrow.

Yes, I’m aware that these last two shots are quite similar to each other, but they’re both good shots, (okay, some vanity at work here), and I couldn’t pick between them. Besides, I really didn’t think anyone would complain about another pic of such a charming-looking rodent.
