A Painted Turtle on a Gloomy Day

Friday, November 13, 2020,

Look, you can’t always pick your shots. This Eastern Painted Turtle was one of the few possible subjects that sat still long enough for me to grab a photo of on this very dark day that threatened rain at any moment. As it happens, the threat proved real but at least I was able to grab this shot. Mother Nature was cutting me a break. JK.

An Eastern Wood-Peewee

Tuesday, November 10, 2020,

This is an Eastern Wood-Peewee that I encountered at the Morton Wildlife Refuge in Sag Harbor. It’s sitting on a branch that juts over the small freshwater pond there. It had been buzzing over and around the pond, catching insects. Right now, it’s taking a breather and enjoying the view. I often spend hours there doing the same exact thing. It really is a very pretty spot. JK.
