This is a juvenile male Yellow-bellied Sapsucker at Frank Melville Park in Setauket. Adult Sapsuckers have red foreheads. You can tell that this is a male by the very sparse splotches of red beneath its chin. The females don’t wear the red beards. JK.

This is a Cape May Warbler. I did not identify this bird on my own. Heck, I wouldn’t have even found this bird on my own. I was lucky enough to be walking with some real birders and it was one of them who spotted and identified this beautiful bird. As I’ve mentioned so many times before in this blog, it helps to know folks that know stuff. Having friends with sharp eyes comes in handy as well. JK.

This is a pair of Bullfrog portraits that I took at Frank Melville Park in Setauket. These are two different frogs. They were hanging out within eight inches of each other, so it made for some easy shooting. The second frog is about twenty percent larger than the frog above but because of the way I’ve cropped these photos, it may be difficult to tell. Not that it matters to the frogs. They’re both green, they’re both ensconced in Duckweed, and neither is dating Miss Piggy. Wins all around. JK.
