These are two only hours old Oystercatcher chicks. The one on the left appears to be contemplating a return to its shell. I can’t claim to blame it. I’ve been reading the news too. As an aside, these are the hatchlings from the eggs and nest I posted a few days ago. With any luck, I may be able to document their future progress. So far, so good. JK

Time for some nearly unbearable cuteness. I took these photos back in January but I was unable to post them here at that time. Joe Kayaker was down due to technical problems that I needed outside help to fix. (Thank you Mike.) This is a young Harbor Seal I found in Westhampton. For anyone interested, a framed version of the above photo will be available as a raffle prize at this year’s Taps and Talons Festival at the Sweetbriar Nature Center on September 20, 2020. JK

This is an immature Snowy Egret. You can tell that it’s a juvenile by the legs. Adult birds have all black legs to go with those golden feet, while this one’s legs still have some dull yellow coloration. I took this photo at the Marine Nature Study Area in Oceanside. Both of these images are the same photograph, just different crops. I couldn’t decide which I liked better so you get to see both. The closer crop above gives you a better look at this Egret’s features, including those lovely gams. Meanwhile, the image below showcases that lovely blue water that this beautiful bird is perched above. I hope you folks will enjoy both of these images. JK
